Mission
The mission of United for D.C. is to champion educational, health, and recreational programs and events that serve disadvantaged youth of greater Washington, DC by engaging the resources and skills of D.C. United and our community. United for D.C. operates three signature programs: United Reads, United Soccer Club, and Kicks for Kids.
Kicks for Kids
provides the game-day experience to youth who may otherwise not have that opportunity. We work with over 130 non profit organizations and public schools in the greater DC area to bring kids out to attend a D.C. United game, receive a t-shirt, meal voucher, and give-a-way item. Although we do solicit sponsors and fan support; the past few years we have had to turn away many ticket requests due to lack of funding for the program. This is the program your tournament will be benefiting! IF you raise your goal of $1,000, you will provide the game day experience for almost 50 kids!!! :)
United Reads
is a literacy and healthy lifestyles initiative that currently operates in 6 DC Public Schools. Through this program, United for D.C. and D.C. United staff, players, and community members visit schools 3 times a year to encourage the kids and help them to see the fun and benefits of reading and leading healthy lives. Through a partnership with Heart of America Foundation we are also able to distribute an average of 6 brand new books to every student in the school each year.
United Soccer Club
is an after-school soccer program born from parents request for soccer in impoverished neighborhoods in Anacostia. Since the inception of the first 'site' in 2006, the program has grown into 12 sites this spring including locations in Montgomery County MD, and Arlington, VA. Through the program, elementary-aged youth are introduced to the sport of soccer and attend sessions, clinics, games, and even a tournament! All coaching and staffing of the program are a result of D.C. United team, staff, and local soccer talent. In addition, each participant receives soccer gear, a t-shirt, and a healthy snack at each session.
All of our programs continue to grow and the request for our continual expansion is astounding. However, the lack of funding and support continues to be an obstacle.
